Another big achievement from the Web Giant Google — it has partnered DigitalGlobe to launch commercial satellites to the space. Now Google will be watching us from there, and it plans to better Google Earth and Google Maps.
This is what Google says in its blog about the development:
To keep bringing you new, high-quality imagery in Google Earth & Google Maps, we work directly with several commercial satellite imaging providers. Last week, our partner DigitalGlobe successfully launched their next generation satellite, WorldView-2, aboard Boeing Delta II 7920 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The successful launch of WV2 is another important step forward in making more high resolution, accurate, current imagery available.
Google Rocks! Hats off to their Vision and Hard-work. World is truly Googalized, and am loving it.
This however will not be a cake work for Google, and it will not be able to do everything it want to. There are government regulations limiting the use of private sattellites by the corporates. This step has, however, taken Google to the next level. They are going too far winning the competition and the prevalent rule of business and governance.
On similar note, TechCrunch writes:
Now, the government has regulations on just how closely Google and these companies can look (mostly because the government itself wants to be the only ones that can see really, really close up on us). But still, this is starting to get mildly creepy. I’d love to know how many satellites they are using up there to get their imagery.

And not to spoil the flavor of this thread --- Google has not even unleashed the true potential it has yet.
