what type of requirement he has? if it includes development kind of activities, i suggest you go for higher screen sizes!

Then, i personally like HP laptops for their good performance and power!

Just personal use for a lady, not much programming. Weight is an issue, so going for 14".

14" wide screen (resolution comes to 1280x600) is the most comfortable size laptop, I feel. It's a nice balance between a handy one and a very productive one. I say go for it, definitely the Compaq-HP models are reliable and sturdy.

I have been using Compaq (HP) 6910p. So far it's the best laptop I have dealt with, a bit costly though. I would recommend that to anyone.

@ tony

if u getting notebook for works & other working purpose dont get windscreen panel , i suffered lot with their resolutions - so go for 14.1" or 15.1"

If u r using for general & multimedia purpose go for the DELL STUDIO 14 - gr8 looks also better than HP in all the way

Take a look @ the ASUS NOTEBOOKS they are nice & better than both DELL & HP

My friends were purchasing laptops..between Compaq, HP, and DELL I found DELL to be most VFM in the 14" and 15.3" range. The Compaq and HPs seemed far too expensive.

Thank you all, personally I prefer Dell, but it seems my friend can't wait for the slow delivery of Dell, i am not sure if Dell is slow to obtain at Banglore. Anyway, she went for the HP 1415 TU.

But think we can use this thread for further discussion.

I was thinking about Dell 13.3 option(from outside) for my personal use. My important concern is weight, because i may carry it often in my back pack. Anybody has anything to share about this model? Dell Studio 14 is also a nice option i guess.

I think the DELL call center is in Bangalore for orders..and they source the machines from Chennai.

Though they always quote 10 working days, usually they deliver in 7. To New Delhi/Gurgaon, they manage, so Bangalore should be quicker.

I would still suggest to go for the DELL 14" ( as you were looking for yourself), it is decent and good features.

Also keep on thing in mind -- take the option for Windows Vista Premium or above. If you get Vista Premium in the bundle that is good, else custom the cart and get Vista Premium. Reason being, post 22nd October all OS > Vista Premium get a free official upgrade to Windows 7.

Apply this rule any other hardware you get. Take the Vista Premium OS.
